Owned Ecommerce for Indonesian Merchants
Helping merchants own their brand, data, and sales channel
01 / Business Challenge
Indonesian merchants rely on third-party marketplaces for reach, but that dependence costs them their brand, their customer data, and their long-term business identity. They rent their storefront instead of owning it.
The challenge was commercial independence: how does a merchant build a durable, branded sales channel without the cost and risk of building custom software?
02 / Solution
A merchant-owned ecommerce platform where each business launches a complete, branded store — with payments, shipping, admin tools, and full data isolation. The value proposition was ownership and independence, not just "a store builder."
03 / Execution
I owned product strategy and build: defined the merchant-independence problem, shaped the single-tenant model, mapped the merchant lifecycle from setup to growth, and designed a repeatable deployment model that could deliver owned ecommerce at scale.
Key execution decisions:
- Single-tenant over multi-tenant — each merchant gets their own deployment for true brand ownership, custom domain, and data isolation.
- Deployment as a product feature — the Dockerized, repeatable setup was treated as part of the product, enabling service-based SaaS delivery.
04 / Business Impact
The platform gave merchants a practical path to owned commerce — stronger branding, direct customer ownership, and independence from marketplace fees and policy. It became a repeatable delivery model for service-based ecommerce.
